Nathan saving for James the train

Nathan loves playing trains and reading his Thomas the train stories. After reading and rereading one story about James again and again, Nathan decided he'd like James. Any parent of a boy who loves trains knows the Thomas trains etc are not cheap. So we got out my dad's old black glass piggy bank and explained to Nathan that we would save his money to buy James. He earned money by helping my mom with a few chores. And of course, various family members would give him a little change now and then. Plus he sold a few of the pumpkins we grew in our garden. He's been saving for about a month. The time came when we were going to Erie where there are stores that sell Thomas trains so we took Nathan and his piggy bank to the bank. We helped him empty it out into the change machine. He proudly took the slip to the teller to receive his "paper" money. Then we went to Erie to buy James...three stores later, we found James. He LOVES that train and shows it to everyone telling them how he sold pumpkins to save enough money to buy James. So sweet!
