our Family Fieldtrip

We were blessed to spend a week in D.C.
on a family fieldtrip.  My sweet friend Sara
and her husband opened their home to us.
Sara lives 1 1/4 miles from the metro so
we'd walk to and from it.
We rode the metro into D.C. each morning
and spent the day being nerds (wink!) ...
and then enjoyed dinner and the evening with
Sara and Jay.

Day 1:  Visited the Washington Monument
and several memorials!

Day 2: Native American Smithsonian Museum
Air and Space Smithsonian Museum
Tour of the Capitol Building and Library of Congress

The kids were SUPER excited to see
this statue of Sacagawea in the Capitol Building.
(We had just learned about her plus Lewis and Clark.)

Day 3:  Holocaust Museum
Smithsonian Museum of American History
Tour of the Bureau Of Printing and Engraving

(I loved this sign at the history museum ... that's me!)

Day 4:  National Archives
(we saw the Declaration of Independence!)
Smithsonian National Gallery of  Art
Portrait Gallery

Day 5: Mount Vernon
(this was my favorite place!)

Day 6:  Arlington Cemetery
(we visited the grave site of one of Matt's students
and watched the changing of the guard)
Garden Tour at the White House

Nathan wants to write Michelle Obama to ask
where the cucumbers are because he couldn't
see any!

We had an amazing, exhausting time!
It was great to visit Sara and Jay, be together
as a family, and watch the kids' excitement
when we saw something they had learned about!
