More important than a new word study lesson ....

Matt's dad has been fighting cancer for almost two years.  He was doing well until about 8 weeks ago when a scan showed the cancer had returned ... this time growing quite rapidly and he has quickly failed.  The doctor told Matt's parents to "go be with your children" ... that this was the end and these were likely our last holidays together.  So Matt's parents traveled from FL to VA to spend time with Matt's brother and family.  Then they arrived in PA Sunday afternoon in time to come over for Matt's birthday dinner.  They will be here for a little over a week.  In an effort to take advantage of these days with them near, I decided to minimize our school days and to spend a couple hours each day with Matt's dad ... so my children can have time loving on their Papa.

We have spent lots of time reading, learning about the Transcontinental RR and the Battle of Little Bighorn, writing in our history journals, working on puzzles, and enjoying Old Fashioned Thanksgiving by Louisa May Alcott.  But I have skipped focused reading, writing, and word study lessons.  Time with Papa is more important than this!  And I am grateful for the flexibility homeschooling gives us to make these life priority choices!

So this is what we've been doing this week ... that we'll never forget and never regret!

cuddling with Papa and giving lots of hugs and kisses

doing puzzles together and playing games
