June Highlights

The beginning of June brought the end of our fifth year of homeschooling ...
and a few awesome end of year projects!
(Uncle Bill, Aunt Kathy with Chapin, Nathan, Aunt Macie, Grace, my mom)

We studied presidents, voting/elections, and government this year.
Nathan and Grace each picked a president to study more in depth, planned
and presented a verbal presentation ...including the president's favorite snack.
Nathan chose FDR and Grace chose Lincoln.
This is the group of supporters that came to listen to their presentations!

I have been teaching both Nathan and Grace how to cook.
We didn't get as far with the cooking lessons as I'd hoped, but
they learned a lot and we will continue them this next year.
Breakfast was the meal they mastered so ...
they hosted brunch for Magnettos (a sweet couple from church).

In October, Nathan and Grace began taking piano lessons.
We love our teacher, Ms. Kristi, who lives 2 miles from us
and does lessons during the day for homeschoolers! Perfect!
Nathan worked really hard to accomplish "Take Me Out to the Ballgame"
for one of his recital pieces.  Grace had her two pieces memorized!
They showed their accomplishments at the recital
at the beginning of this month.

We did a 3 week mini unit on government this spring.
We had some great hands-on learning for this unit ...
tour of the Crawford County courthouse,
attending a Rome Township meeting,
a visit with our State Representative Kathy Rapp,
writing letters to Rep. Rapp and our Senator Michelle Brooks
asking them to consider proposing a bill for Food Freedom,
and this last opportunity for us to attend a hearing in front of
Magistrate Amy Nichols supporting our local farmer
and Food Freedom!

Looking back over our school year and all the great learning
that occurred ...planned and unplanned...makes me smile!

Here are a few more things that have made me smile this month!

Sharing our grape jelly with the Baltimore Orioles and Rose-breasted Grosbeaks.

Picking AND EATING fresh strawberries!

Summer Reading!

Lots of SWIMMING in our pool!

Picnic and Jazz Ensemble Concert in the park

Nathan's first year playing baseball.
This is his team!
Regular season just ended BUT Nathan
was asked to play on the 11 yr old ALL STAR team.
So baseball continues for a few more weeks...

Look for reasons to smile today!

What a glorious June you've all had! It's always so lovely to see everyone's smiling faces in your photos. We love The Incorrigible Children too - we're eagerly awaiting the final instalment. :)
