First thing ... I want everyone to know that this post is to praise God for his faithfulness not a "woe is me" post! In the middle of October, a woman at church shared how she had learned that when we have a problem, we are to find a scripture that speaks to our problem and stand on it! She explained that her problem was financial so she started praying Philippians 4:19
"And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus."Matt and I looked at each other and agreed that we needed to stand on this scripture as a family ... because with Matt's loss of a full time job at a public school (significant pay cut), farther drive with high gas prices, many repairs to our home and cars, plus our regular bills (which are a minimum compared to most) ... the numbers don't come close to adding up.
So we began studying this scripture, teaching our children about it, memorizing it together, and praying this promise! And how God has provided has left us humble at His feet!
We decided to start a list of how God has been faithful to provide for our needs ... our Philippians 4:19 list! I want to share a few with you so your faith can be encouraged. I am blessed that my children are witness to this and their faith can be expanded at such a young age!
Colwell family Philippians 4:19 list
1. 200 lbs of potatoes to put away and use all winter (when we thought there were no more potatoes available)
2. savings bonds we didn't know Matt had in his parents' fire safe box(the amount was 90 cents more than we needed to get the new tires, rotars
and break pads that the truck needed!)
3. new sneakers for Nathan(we didn't have the money for shoes so we rationalized he didn't need them until spring since he's homeschooled ... but received an unexpected pair in a package)
4. a call telling me to make a grocery list and be ready to go the next night because someone was paying for our groceries(we hadn't bought groceries in two months and now our cupboards are full)
5. Matt getting two deer this hunting season(that's a lot of meat for us ... the photo above is some of the venison that I canned ... God even provided someone to teach us how to cut up our own deer saving the processing fee)
6. an unsigned Christmas card in the mail with a Walmart gift card
and more...And Matt and I have felt God at work in our hearts ... for as we have had less, we have wanted less. Our eyes and hearts have become more aware of the many people who have far less than we do.
May this post encourage your hearts and increase your faith! We serve a faithful God!
