Valentine Experiment

We had fun with this "Valentine" experiment.
Before beginning, the kids made shapes out of
pipe cleaners and suspended them from Popsicle sticks,
Next, we put 1/3 c. borax in a pint jar then added
boiling water. Stirred to dissolve borax.
The kids hung their shapes in the jars and
documented all this in their science journals.
And waited!

The next morning, we took the shapes out
and "ta da" ... crystals.
When the water cooled, the borax
formed crystals and they clung to the
pipe cleaners.

Now we have sparkly decorations in our windows!

I love this! I accidentally ordered a double quantity of borax recently - now I know what to do with it. Thank you!
