February at our home

We had some weird weather in February ...
We woke up one Tuesday morning to a thick layer of ice covering
everything and heavy freezing rain still coming down.
Matt stayed home from school and we cancelled piano lessons...
and had a fun family day playing games and working on
elective AHG and TL badges with the kids.
Less than two weeks later, we lost electricity on a Sunday
evening while playing a family game of Rails and Trails...
and still didn't have it back the next morning ...
so no electricity, no heat, no water ...
high winds and heavy snow ...
Matt stayed home again.
(Side note ...he has never missed school for bad weather
before these two days in the same month!)

We made Valentine projects for WCTL's  Healing Hearts.
(Grace - painted rocks, Nathan - string art)
We had planned to not only make Valentines this year,
but to help WCTL deliver them but that ended up
not working out ...maybe next year.

At the beginning of February, Grace decorated 4 pint jars ...
one for each of us.  These jars along with small slips of paper
and a pen sat on our kitchen table for the next two weeks.
Randomly, we would write "something we love" about
one of our family members placing it in the jar.
On Valentine's Day, I fixed a fun meal for us to enjoy
as a family.  After eating, we read aloud the notes in
our jars.  Then we enjoyed Valentine shortbread cookies
that Grace and I had made the day before with raspberry
jam in the middle.  A sweet way to celebrate our family's love.
