May began with Nathan and Grace's piano recital.
They each performed a solo then performed
a duet ...which is musically challenging
and in their relationship ...let alone our piano bench!
Matt's mom ended her 3+ week visit to PA
with a few more days with us right on time to
attend the kids' recital.
So they got to have both grammas
beaming proudly at their recital this year.
Matt took a day off early May so we could help
stock our local Thompson Run with trout.
We also took along a picnic lunch and spent
the afternoon fishing (well I read and cheered
them on)! This has become a family day
for the past few years.
Nathan and Grace finished up their second year in
Trail Life and American Heritage Girls.
Both worked extra hard earning independent badges.
Nathan earned the highest level for his unit ...
which normally takes boys 3 years.
Memorial Day weekend is usually a work weekend around here,
but we make sure to take some time for fun too.
This year for our "cookout", we had smoked pulled rabbit
sandwiches, coleslaw, watermelon and steak fries.
We soaked the two rabbits that Nathan shot in the fall
in a brine over night, put a rub on them the next day
and smoked them in our meat smoker. Matt and
Nathan shredded the meat and we added some BBQ
sauce ...put on buns with coleslaw ...
and enjoyed yummy sandwiches!
The kids have been spending free time down at our creek.
They are working to dam up an area to make a swimming
(or splashing) hole for the summer since we don't
have a pool anymore.
They are such a mess after playing in the mud
but they sure are happy!
And May 31st finished up our homeschool year.
I am ready for summer break (Matt has a week more
than us), but am already thinking ahead to our next
homeschool year. I am so blessed to have a husband
who supports me being home with our children, and
children who want to learn more and more, and
with this time with my sweet (sometimes annoying)
children who are growing up WAY TOO QUICKLY!
Time to plant the garden.
